Leaf & Latch Springs

 Leaf & Latch Springs

Redfoot manufactures leaf springs to meet the highest performance standards needed for neckring arms. The stainless steel coils are imported from top European steel mills, the coils specially selected from mill stock to ensure exceptional characteristics with high temperature resistance and low plastic deformation, resulting in a long lifetime on the I.S. machine.

Material Characteristics

Material selection ensures tensile strengths of 2000MPa thus assuring that the leaf spring does not permanently deform when inserted in the neckring arm. The material is heat treated above 400’C to ensure that neckring temperatures of 300’C does not cause leaf spring tempering during manufacturing of containers. This heat treatment is critical to provide a longer life on the I.S. machine.

How to test correct material characteristics

Inserting the leaf spring into the neckring arm and removing it immediately should not cause the leaf spring to bent or be deformed in its free position. If deformation does take place, then the spring characteristics and/or design needs to be investigated. Plastic deformation will occur over time, but performing this test will ensure maximum life is extracted from the component resulting in trouble free operation on the I.S. machine for weeks.

Quality and Consistency

Redfoot leaf springs are manufactured with press tools that forms the springs with exact quality repeatability providing clients a superior product at a lower cost.

Latch Springs

The stainless steel latch springs supplied by Redfoot compliments the leaf spring with high temperature resistance and strength, ensuring that the neckring arm performs optimally for extended periods. The latch spring was designed to meet the requirements of the most demanding applications, latching and keeping the latch locked. Plants using double leaf springs in the arms are especially prone to latch spring fatigue, causing neckrings to fall out, resulting in damaged tools and container defects.
